Team Nigeria Set for Grand World Cup Send-Off as NFAF Unveils ‘Nigeria Showcase’ Ahead of IFAF Flag Football Championships

The Nigeria Federation of American Football (NFAF) has announced plans for a spectacular Team Nigeria Showcase, a landmark event designed to officially present the country’s national flag football teams to Nigerians ahead of the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Scheduled for Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos, the event is expected to bring together the nation’s finest flag football talents in what promises to be one of the biggest celebrations of the sport since the inauguration of the NFAF by the National Sports Commission.

The showcase, themed “Road to Düsseldorf 2026,” will run from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m., with free admission for spectators.

Beyond serving as the official send-off for Team Nigeria, the event will offer fans a rare opportunity to watch the country’s men’s and women’s national teams in action before they depart for Germany.

The highlight of the day will see Team Nigeria’s men’s and women’s national teams square off against specially selected All-Star teams, providing a high-level competitive test as the players enter the final phase of preparations for the World Championships.

The showcase is expected to give the national team coaches another valuable opportunity to assess the readiness of their squads, fine-tune tactical approaches and evaluate player combinations before Nigeria takes on the world’s best in Düsseldorf.

The 2026 IFAF World Flag Football Championships hold special significance as one of the biggest global competitions ahead of flag football’s historic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where the sport will make its first-ever Olympic appearance.

Nigeria heads into the tournament with renewed confidence following months of nationwide trials, evaluation camps and intensive training programmes organised by the Nigeria Federation of American Football. The federation, inaugurated earlier this year by the National Sports Commission, has also received official confirmation from the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) as the body responsible for overseeing the sport in Nigeria.

With several of the world’s leading flag football nations expected in Germany, the Team Nigeria Showcase is expected to serve as the final competitive dress rehearsal for the national teams before they step onto the international stage.

Beyond the action on the field, the event promises a vibrant festival atmosphere featuring fan engagement activities, music, food and drinks, merchandise, giveaways and other entertainment, making it a family-friendly celebration of one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing sports.

As anticipation builds towards Düsseldorf 2026, the Team Nigeria Showcase represents far more than an exhibition game. It is a celebration of Nigeria’s growing presence in international flag football and an opportunity for supporters to rally behind the athletes who will carry the nation’s hopes onto the world stage.

For players and fans alike, Sunday, July 5, at Meadow Hall, Lekki, will mark the official beginning of Nigeria’s World Championship journey—a day to celebrate the country’s best, unite behind Team Nigeria and send its flag football ambassadors to Germany with the backing of an entire nation.
