Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has declared unanimous support from Africa’s 54 football associations for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, revealing that the continent’s football leadership has agreed to back his continued presidency without conditions.
Speaking at a CAF strategy meeting in Cape Verde, Motsepe said the decision followed discussions among the continent’s football leaders, who considered Infantino’s relationship with African football and his contributions to its development.

“At the meeting of the 54 CAF member association presidents, who represent football federations in 54 countries on the African continent, a unanimous decision was taken in the context of the discussions and what has been taking place in the media,” Motsepe said.
The CAF president explained that the resolution reflected the collective position of the member associations, rather than the preference of an individual federation or official.
“The essential part of the resolution is that there is a unanimous decision by the 54 CAF member associations on the African continent,” he stated.
Motsepe emphasised that the support was unconditional, pointing to Infantino’s longstanding engagement with African football and his administration’s relationship with the continent.
“The unanimous and unconditional decision is because of all the discussions that have taken place, the history and the deep commitment to African football that Gianni has displayed in his position as president of FIFA,” he explained.
Motsepe said the decision also recognised the importance of maintaining cooperation between CAF and FIFA in efforts to strengthen football development across Africa.
He stressed that the resolution represented a united continental position, particularly amid public discussions surrounding Infantino’s future at the helm of world football.
“To express Africa’s unanimous support, unconditional support, for his presidency as president of FIFA,” Motsepe declared.
The announcement reinforces CAF’s institutional backing for Infantino, whose administration has worked with African football authorities on infrastructure, development programmes and initiatives intended to improve the continent’s competitiveness.
For Motsepe, the message from Cape Verde is clear: Africa’s 54 football associations have presented a united position in support of Infantino’s continued FIFA leadership, citing his relationship with the continent and commitment to African football.
