Super Falcons Will Surely Conquer The World – Femi Opabunmi

As reactions continue trailing the historic 10th conquest of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by the Super Falcons, a former male international, Femi Opabunmi has tipped the female squad to become world champions.

Sports247 reports that Opabunmi, who played for Nigeria at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, believes the recent presidential reward handed out to the Falcons will motivate them to aim higher.

He faulted critics who described the federal government’s largesse as excessive, with a view that any team that wins an African title deserves bountiful rewards.

Opabunmi countered, “A lot of people are saying this and that about the rewards, but I say, ‘Forget it!’ For me, they have represented a whole country.

“The Nations Cup is for all of Africa, and to conquer at that level is not an easy job. So, I appreciate them and I am really, really happy for them.”

The former Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and Grasshopper FC of Switzerland winger then prayed for better days and more trophies ahead of the Falcons, including success at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I pray for more to come, and I pray that they will go to the upper stage, which is the World Cup.

“They will go to showcase their talent there and conquer the world. I know, by God’s grace, that they will surely conquer the world,” Opabunmi predicted.
