Former Super Falcons coach Rolandson Odey has expressed strong confidence that Nigeria possesses everything required to successfully defend its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With the 2026 WAFCON also serving as the final qualification tournament for Africa’s representatives at the World Cup in Brazil, Odey believes the Super Falcons are well-positioned to achieve both objectives.
Nigeria heads into the tournament as the defending African champions, having defeated hosts Morocco in last year’s final to reclaim the continental crown and extend its record as the most successful team in the competition’s history.
“I believe this Super Falcons team has what it takes to retain the WAFCON title and qualify for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup. The quality is there, and the experience is there,” Odey said.
The former coach noted that one of Nigeria’s biggest strengths is the continuity within the squad, with the core of the players who lifted the trophy last year still available, while a number of exciting new faces have also been introduced to strengthen the team.
Odey also expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations, pointing out that players have already begun arriving in camp, giving the technical crew valuable time to prepare ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
“Most of the players who won the last tournament are still together, and the new additions have improved the squad. With preparations already underway, I’m confident the team will be ready when the competition begins,” he added.
The Super Falcons remain the most successful nation in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a record 10 continental titles and will be among the favourites when the tournament gets underway in Morocco.
Nigeria will continue its preparations in camp before opening its title defence, with the team aiming to retain its continental crown and secure another appearance at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
