Super Falcons Begin WAFCON Campaign in Style with 3–0 Victory Over Tunisia

Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a commanding 3–0 win over Tunisia at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.

A blistering start saw star striker Asisat Oshoala open the scoring as early as the 4th minute, giving Nigeria an early lead and setting the tone for the encounter.

The Barcelona forward capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home calmly, reaffirming her status as one of the continent’s finest.

The Falcons continued to dominate possession throughout the match, and their patience paid off again in the 67th minute when Rinsola Babajide—playing in her first major WAFCON—doubled Nigeria’s lead with a composed finish following a swift team move.

The icing on the cake came in the 87th minute, as Chinwendu Ihezuo rounded off a clinical performance with a well-taken goal, ensuring all three points for Nigeria and a clean sheet to start their Group B campaign.

It was a strong statement of intent from coach Justine Madugu’s side, who are aiming for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
