Former Super Eagles’ shot-stopper and goalkeepertrainer, Alloy Agu, has predicted that the team will get victory over South Africa on Tuesday because he believes the players know what is at stake.
Sports247 reports that, although the Eagles will be the away team in Tuesday’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, Agu is rooting for the Nigerian players to rise to the occasion and put their qualification chances back on track.
The ex-international keeper, who made top marks with MVV Maastrich of Netherlands during his heyday, opined: “All the players know what is at stake. They know that the ticket for the 2026 World Cup is at stake. It I’d in this kind of situation that players know how to showcase themselves.”
Agu, who lost a tooth in Nigeria’s decisive yet fruitless final qualification match against Cameroon for the ticket to Italia ’90, averred that playing such a crucial match away to South Africa will be very tough, but he still charged the players to take the bull by the horn.
“They all want to be at the World Cup, and they know that they can not afford to lose. So, I believe whoever finds himself in that green-and-white jersey is going to come our strong and give Nigeria the real best.
“I believe they know what is at stake, and they will go out there to give their very best,” Agu, who is now an active and highly renowned pastor, projected.
