Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has been assigned to Pot 2 in preparation for the draw for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, SPORTS247.NG reports.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially unveiled the pots for the upcoming draw, which will determine the group-stage compositions for the highly anticipated tournament.

Sharing Pot 2 with the Super Eagles are formidable African football teams such as Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and DR Congo.

This placement implies that Nigeria could potentially find themselves grouped with host nation Côte d’Ivoire, reigning AFCON champions Senegal, and other strong contenders like Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, or Morocco.

In Pot 3, there are South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania, while Pot 4 includes Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Gambia, and Tanzania.

The draw for the 2023 AFCON is scheduled to take place in Abidjan on October 12. The 24 qualifying teams will be drawn into six groups of four during this event, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating tournament.

During the 2021 AFCON held in Cameroon, the Super Eagles advanced to the round of 16 before facing a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tunisia.
