Former Nigeria international Taiwo Oloyede has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to begin preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup immediately, insisting the mistakes that led to Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the last two editions must never be repeated.
Nigeria missed out on both the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2026 tournament, leaving the Super Eagles absent from football’s biggest stage for two consecutive editions.

Oloyede believes the only way to avoid another disappointment is through long-term planning, proper organisation and early preparation.
“The preparations for the 2030 World Cup should start now. We cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes that cost Nigeria qualification,” Oloyede said.
The former Super Eagles defender stressed that successful World Cup qualification is built over several years rather than a few months before the qualifiers begin.
He urged the NFF to establish a clear roadmap for the national team, including sustained support for the coaching crew, proper player monitoring and improved football administration.
“Everything must be put in place early. Good planning gives you a better chance of achieving your objectives when the qualifiers begin,” he added.
The Super Eagles are currently rebuilding under head coach Eric Chelle, with attention gradually shifting towards the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the next World Cup qualifying campaign.
Oloyede expressed confidence that with strategic planning, stability and commitment from all stakeholders, Nigeria can quickly return to the FIFA World Cup and reclaim its place among Africa’s football powerhouses.
