Sunday Dare, The Minister for Sports and Youth Development will meet with the 36 states’ commissioners of sports in Asaba to discuss issues on sports development, as well as the National Sports Festival, special Adviser, Media, to the Minister, John Joshua Akanji, revealed.
The deliberation on the 2020 National Sports Festival billed to take place in Benin will be top on the agenda while he also dismissed speculations that the festival has been postponed till next year as false, saying the ministry has not taken any decision on the event.
The 2020 National Sports Festival, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak early this year, has been in the news since the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 lifted the ban on contact sports.
It will be notably recalled that in a recent interview done by the sports minister, he talked about proposed plans for the NSF which the ministry intends to be in batches due to the pandemic outbreak as it is an avenue for some Nigerian athletes to get their qualification ticket for the upcoming TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC games and for other youths who make their living through sports.
