Sterling Bank–Backed CCC Lagos League Shifts Into High Gear as 2025/26 Season Intensifies

The Club Cricket Committee (CCC) Lagos League has moved into top gear in the new year, with the 2025/26 season gathering momentum across the Premier and First Divisions, much to the delight of organisers and headline sponsor Sterling Bank.

Week six action delivered compelling contests, headlined by Premier League leaders Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club, who continued their impressive run with a three-wicket victory over Rocks of Abeokuta, reinforcing their status as early title contenders.

Elsewhere, Government College Ibadan produced a dominant performance to secure a 78-run win over MRI Warriors, while defending champions Rising Stars Cricket Club underlined their pedigree with an emphatic eight-wicket victory against Federal Government College Warri.

The battle for individual honours is also heating up. Rising Stars’ Vishal Sharma currently leads the Premier Division batting charts with 185 runs, while Dada Toluwalase tops the First Division standings with 161 runs.

On the bowling front, Rising Stars’ Chimezie Onwuzulike has emerged as the most lethal bowler in the league with 11 wickets, a tally matched in Division One by Mahesh Sharma of Lagos Asians.

Beyond the on-field action, the league continues to reap the benefits of its strategic partnership with Sterling Bank, sealed ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The collaboration has helped raise league standards, boost player performance and provide a high-performance platform for elite cricketers, while significantly enhancing the commercial appeal of domestic cricket.

Chairman of the CCC and former Yellow Greens captain, Endurance Ofem, praised the transformative impact of the partnership.

“The impact of Sterling Bank’s involvement was felt from day one. It has brought a new level of professional rigour to the league. The players are now playing in an ecosystem that finally values their talent and rewards their hard work.”

Sterling Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Donatus Okpako, echoed those sentiments, stressing the institution’s commitment to grassroots excellence.

“Beyond putting logos on the boundary boards of pitches, we sought to be the engine promoting local excellence in a sport often ignored. Seeing talents break records weeks into this journey affirmative our belief that when you provide the right financial and structural backbone, our local talents can compete on global stages.”

Attention now turns to week seven of the Premier League, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the UNILAG and Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Ovals, while Division One prepares to enter week eight.

Ibeju Lekki and Lagos Asians currently sit atop their respective Division One groups with eight points each, setting the stage for another highly competitive round of fixtures.

As the season unfolds, the CCC Lagos League continues to strengthen its reputation as Nigeria’s premier domestic cricket competition, blending elite performance with growing commercial confidence.
