Sports Minister Calls For Calmness, Understanding Following Nigeria National Basketball Players Petition Against Incumbent Administration

Following the Nigeria National Basketball Players Petition to the Federation expressing their extreme dissatisfaction with the incumbent leadership led by Musa Kida over the decline in morale support and sports performance for both the men and women national team, Sunday Dare has called for patience and calmness as their requests will be looked into.

Due to the mismanagement, the team in their petition revealed that they won’t participate in any future national competition until the incumbent administration is dissolved.

In a bid to resolve this grievance among the players, the minister of youths and sports development has intervened so as to come to a common ground.

The sum of 9,500 USD has been paid to each athlete in the adopt an athletes donation initiative since last year alongside bonuses promised by the federation.

Also, outstanding allowances have been partly paid with the balance being processed by the federal government as the ministry explained and asked for understanding.

In regards to the Olympics, there will be overseas training and equipment allowance with an increase by the minister from 3,500 and 6,000. All have been paid; not only for the 12 female basketball players but for about 36 Other Nigerian athletes.

The approved amount was 3,500 USD but the minister in Japan increased it to 6,000 to boost the morale of athletes.

In the midst of the NBBF crisis, the ministry has raised millions to sponsor the super 8 that qualified Nigeria for the basketball league Africa (BLA).
