Nigeria’s youth football development will be in the continental spotlight as Sporting Supreme FC of Abuja have departed for Senegal ahead of the 2026 Africa Challenge Cup, scheduled for February 9–14.

The Abuja-based academy side will represent Nigeria at the prestigious tournament, which has grown into one of Africa’s most respected platforms for youth football development, bringing together elite academies and emerging football institutions from across the continent.
Sporting Supreme FC are one of ten teams selected from five African countries—Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Guinea—underscoring the competitive quality of the tournament and the calibre of opposition awaiting the Nigerian representatives.
Among the participating teams are Senegalese powerhouses Diambars FC, Generation Foot, Dial Diop SC and Espoirs Guédiawaye; Mali’s Afrique Football Elite, Centre Sportif de Bamako and Étoiles du Mandé; New Stars FC of Burkina Faso; Académie Coyah of Guinea; and Sporting Supreme FC of Nigeria.
For the group stage, teams have been drawn into two groups of five.
Sporting Supreme FC will compete in Group A alongside Diambars FC, Dial Diop SC, Étoiles du Mandé and New Stars FC, while Group B features Afrique Football Elite, Centre Sportif de Bamako, Generation Foot, Espoirs Guédiawaye and Académie Coyah.
Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, Sporting Supreme FC General Manager, Ismail Hamza—popularly known as Veron—described the Africa Challenge Cup as a vital benchmark for the club’s growth and philosophy.
“This tournament provides a valuable opportunity to test our progress against some of the best academies on the continent,” Hamza said.
“Beyond competition, it offers international exposure for our players and aligns perfectly with our long-term development objectives.”
He expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, noting that the club’s ambition in Senegal goes beyond participation.
“Our aim is to compete strongly, gain vital experience, and make a clear statement about the quality of talent being developed at Sporting Supreme FC.”
The Africa Challenge Cup is organized annually by Sports Agency Bright Management Group in partnership with Diambars Academy.
Since its inception, the competition has steadily grown in stature, earning recognition as a key talent-identification platform with a strong focus on youth development in Senegal and across Africa.
As Sporting Supreme FC take on the continental challenge, the Abuja-based side will be determined to leave a lasting impression, showcase Nigerian youth football, and proudly represent the nation at the 2026 Africa Challenge Cup in Senegal.
