Sporting Lagos Coach Reflects On NPFL Loss, Tactical Decisions

Following Sporting Lagos’ 2-0 defeat against Enyimba FC in the NPFL, Coach Paul Offor addressed the press, expressing disappointment at the conceded goals that contributed to his team’s current 18th position on the league table after matchday 17.

Coach Offor acknowledged the team’s defensive lapses, stating, “We lost 2-0, and we shouldn’t at this time be conceding this type of goals we are conceding right now.

And, unfortunately, we conceded those goals. There is nothing we can do about it; we lost like that.”

Responding to questions about a tactical substitution that saw Godwin Odibo taken off, Offor clarified that decisions are not solely based on what is visible during the game.

He emphasized the importance of considering the player’s well-being, stating, “You don’t know the condition the boy played with. So we know him, we have the medical team around him and we know how he struggled in the first half.

The health and the well-being of the player are more important than anything else. So it wasn’t more like a tactical substitution, but it was because of the complaints we had in the first half with him.”

Regarding Sporting Lagos’ performance in the NPFL compared to their time in the NNL, Offor pointed out the challenges faced due to injuries, leading to lineup adjustments.

He expressed optimism about the team’s current state, stating, “Fortunately, right now we have everybody back, and we have to restart again. That is what it is.”

When asked about his impression of the goalkeeper’s performance, Offor praised him, saying, “He was excellent today, both in his delivery.

He saved us a lot of time, and I’m very, very happy with him.” As for the potential return of Christian Nwoke to the lineup in the next game, Offor remained cryptic, stating, “You will see when we play our next game.”

Sporting Lagos will look to regroup and address their challenges as they aim to improve their standing in the NPFL in the upcoming fixtures.
