Former Super Falcons head coach Edwin Okon has urged the current Nigeria women’s national team manager to become more vocal about the lack of matches for the team.

Speaking on the issue, Okon stressed that advocating for proper preparation is a key responsibility of any national team coach.

“The coach must speak up,” he said.

According to the former manager, securing regular friendly games is essential for maintaining competitiveness and improving team chemistry.

“You need matches to grow,” he implied.

Okon explained that during his own time in charge of the Super Falcons, he regularly pushed the Nigeria Football Federation for fixtures and better preparation opportunities.

“It’s part of the job,” he noted.

He emphasized that remaining silent about inadequate preparations only hurts the team in the long run.

“You have to demand more,” he added.

For Okon, top-level football requires consistent exposure to competitive matches, especially ahead of major tournaments.

“Preparation is everything,” he stressed.

He warned that without enough games, players may struggle with rhythm, cohesion, and tactical sharpness.

“You can’t prepare properly without matches,” he said.

As discussions continue around the Super Falcons’ readiness for future competitions, concerns over scheduling remain a recurring issue.

For Okon, the message is clear.

Advocate for the team.

Push for better preparation.

And demand what’s necessary.

Because in international football, success is built long before the tournament begins.
