Social Media Platforms On Red Alert, After Racist Attack On Tolu Arokodare

Popular social media platforms have been put on red alert and urged to watch out for culprits, after Wolverhampton Wanderers of England striker, Tolu Arokodare was attacked online with racist comments.

Sports247 gathered that Wolves contacted some social media platforms immediately after Arokodare was attacked with racial slurs while in action for the struggling club on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Arokodare came under racist slurs from his club’s angry fans after he missed a first half penalty kick that could have helped the side eke out a good result away to Crystal Palace.

Unfortunately, Wolves went on to lose the game 1-0 and they remain stuck to the bottom of the English Premier League with only 10 points, leaving their fans frustrated and they labelled Arokodare their latest scapegoat.

However, the club’s management is not taking the matter lying low, as they quickly issued a press statement in support of the former RKC Genk of Belgium striker and then reported the abuse to a number of social media sites.

“The club has reported the posts to the relevant platforms and will work with the Premier League and the authorities to help identify those responsible.

“We will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination and ensure appropriate action is taken,” a press release by Wolves stated in part.

Arokodare, who was the third EPL player to be so attacked this past weekenes, shared screenshots of the sordid messages that were sent to him online after the game and expressed dismay that racism continues unabated in football.

He added, “It’s still unbelievable to me that we’re playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences.

“These individuals should have no place in our game and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this, no matter who they are.”
