Sunny Kingsley, founder of Sports Kindergarten International (SKI)

On Saturday. January 16, 2021, in Agedemgbi Lagos, SKI, Sports Kindergarten International aimed to promote street football among various young football talents.

Sports Kindergarten International is a sports academy that helps restructure other Sports academies, help coaches as well by bringing ideas to the coaches, educating their coaches, and enlightening their coaches and then to the players. They have top academies in Port Harcourt, and in various states in the country.

In an extensive interview with Sports247, Sunny Kingsley, founder of Sports Kindergarten International (SKI), UEFA A License Coach, and Ex Nigerian international stated how SKI organized a football programme on Saturday for young football talented kids who were on the street of Agedemgbe, Lagos State, where these kids were given the chance to express themselves on the field, showcasing their football skills and talents.

“The game on Saturday is the idea of SKI. It’s one of the projects that we have. A.K.A Sunny Kingsley Soccer Academy. We look for kids with their real age. We search the streets for kids, especially those ones who don’t have anyone to support them”.

“That programme at Agedemgbe has to do with kids that live on the Streets that do mechanic and know how to play football, who approached me telling me to give them a chance, so I decided to organize a programme for them, which looks like a real match, with referees, refreshments and everything, for them to showcase their football talents and skills. It was indeed a nice programme”.

“We saw a lot of smiles among the kids, we saw street football at his best. We want to bring street football back to Nigeria. We want to create an atmosphere where the kids can showcase the talents they have because we know that most kids are talented. Most times, Coaches use complains, controlling and shouting to take out the kids’ confidence. That day (on Saturday) was amazing. Even the kids’ parents were very happy. So what we wanted was achieved,” he admitted.

While Still speaking, Sunny Kingsley also admitted that he scouted two very young kids during the programme on Saturday, which he wants to help further and develop their football careers in their various academies.

“We had two ‘Iniesta’ who were only 12 years old, which was their real age. I saw two of them. Even though I saw a lot of talents, but those two were outstanding. We aren’t planning to take them away from their academies. We don’t want to take them away from their comfort zone. We only plan to support them through their Academy as well as help develop their football careers”, he added.

Sunny Kingsley also stated the plans of SKI Kindergarten Sports International Academy on the 21st and 22nd of January, 2021 at the Soccer Temple Stadium in Agege, Lagos State.

“We have many academies coming there to showcase what they have. It’s going to be amazing. Come Thursday and Friday, it’s going to be a bomb. Mind you, it’s not a competition, it’s a developmental programme. What we want to do is to help improve young players and develop them. You don’t have to take a player from one academy to another, you can improve and develop a player from his academy. This is what we are trying to create here in Nigeria”, he concluded.
