Sierra Leone Announces 38-Man Squad For Clash Against Super Eagles In 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Sierra Leone has announced a 38-man squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations
qualifying match against Nigeria.

The fixture is scheduled to take place on June 18 at the
Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia. However, due to the Sierra Leone Football
Federation’s inability to provide a suitable venue in their own country, the match will be
hosted in Liberia.

The squad includes notable foreign-based players such as team captain Steven Caulker,
Kamil Conteh, Alhaji Kamara, Idris Kanu, Lamin Conteh, Mohamed Kamara, and Daniel
Karim. Head coach John Keister will have to trim down the squad before the team begins
preparations for the game.

Currently placed third in Group A, the Leone Stars have accumulated five points, trailing
Nigeria, who are the group leaders, by four points. They are also two points behind
Guinea-Bissau, who occupy the second spot. Sierra Leone will be eager to secure a victory
in this crucial fixture to improve their chances of advancing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the previous encounter between these two teams, held in Abuja in June of the previous
year, the Super Eagles managed to stage a comeback and secure a 2-1 victory over the
Leone Stars. Sierra Leone will be looking to turn the tables this time and emerge victorious on their home soil, albeit in a different country.

The selection of a large squad indicates the seriousness with which Sierra Leone is
approaching this fixture. The inclusion of experienced foreign-based players, along with the leadership of Steven Caulker, will provide the team with a strong foundation as they prepare to face the Nigerian side.

As the match draws nearer, John Keister will have the challenging task of finalizing his
squad and formulating a game plan to overcome the Nigerian team. The players will undergo intensive training and tactical sessions to ensure they are well-prepared for the encounter.

All eyes will be on the Leone Stars as they seek to secure a vital victory against Nigeria and boost their chances of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations. The match promises to be a thrilling contest, with both teams fighting for a coveted spot in the prestigious tournament
