Pressure is mounting on Shooting Stars head coach Salisu Yusuf after frustrated supporters called for his removal following Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Kano Pillars at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
The Oluyole Warriors were unable to find the back of the net for the second consecutive league game, leaving their supporters increasingly concerned about the team’s poor attacking form.
The result came just three days after Shooting Stars were held to another goalless draw by Nasarawa United at the same venue on October 4.
Two home matches, two 0-0 results and no goals scored have increased the pressure around the Ibadan club, with sections of the supporters now demanding changes to the technical team.
Following the final whistle against Kano Pillars, some aggrieved fans remained around the stadium and expressed their displeasure with the team’s performance.
Reports also stated that some supporters stopped the vehicle of the club chairman while calling for Yusuf’s dismissal.
The situation, however, did not escalate into serious violence, with people around the scene helping to prevent the confrontation from getting out of control.
Some fans were also reported to have verbally confronted Sporting Director Adepoju Tobi Samuel after the match, while chants calling for Yusuf’s sack were heard outside the stadium.
Shooting Stars’ latest result leaves them with eight points from seven NPFL matches, having recorded two wins, two draws and three defeats so far this season.
For a club with ambitions of competing strongly in the NPFL, the lack of goals is becoming a major concern. The back-to-back home draws have also denied the Oluyole Warriors the opportunity to make significant progress on the league table.
Yusuf and his players will now have to respond quickly as attention turns to their next league assignment away to Kun Khalifat on October 11.
With supporters already making their feelings known, the pressure will be on Shooting Stars to produce a positive result and, most importantly, rediscover their goalscoring touch
