Sheriff Hammed Brings His Lagos State Experience Into Nigeria Judo Federation’s Caretaker Committee

The caretaker committee chairman of Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Sheriff Hammed will bring to bear on his new appointment a vast range of ideas and experience he gained while in charge of the same sport in Lagos State.

Sports247 reports that Hammed shot into the spotlight four years ago, when he emerged as chairman of Lagos State Judo Association (LSJA) and subsequently went on to pull off a long range of historic achievements.

Hammed will now aim to replicate his glorious strides at the federal level, following his appointment by the National Sports Commission (NSC) as head of a six-member caretaker committee, sequel to a recent dissolution of the NJF’s board by International Judo Federation.

An official statement about his appointment disclosed that the committee will serve as a transitional panel to oversee activities of the judo federation pending the conduct of elections and inauguration of a new elected board before the year runs out.

The statement added, “Sheriff Hammed will chair the Caretaker Committee, while Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu will serve as members. Amayo Ngozi has been appointed Secretary.

“The committee is mandated to oversee day-to-day administration of the Nigeria Judo Federation and facilitate the reforms necessary to place the federation on a sound administrative footing.

“Among its responsibilities are amending the federation’s constitution to reflect provisions required by the IJF, convening an Annual General Meeting to consider and approve the amended constitution, and organising elections during the transitional period.

“The committee will also be responsible for ensuring a smooth and orderly transition to the duly elected board of the Nigeria Judo Federation following the conclusion of the electoral process.”
