Nigerian hammer thrower Sade Olatoye delivered a strong performance at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational in Canada, launching a Season’s Best (SB) of 70.27m to finish 5th in a high-quality field on Sunday.
Olatoye’s mark represents her best distance of the 2024 season so far and signals a return to form as she builds momentum ahead of key international competitions. The 2022 Commonwealth Games finalist continues to be one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers in the throws.

The event was won by American Rachel Richeson, who dominated with a massive 77.81m throw. Another Nigerian, Annette Echikunwoke, also made a statement with a second-place finish, recording a solid 74.57m — further reinforcing Nigeria’s growing strength in the women’s hammer throw.
With both athletes posting strong marks, Nigeria’s presence in the global hammer throw scene looks increasingly competitive, especially heading toward the African Games and future World Championships qualifiers.
