While throwing more light on the project tagged ‘Rugby Rising Initiative,’ Oguntimehin thanked all the hosts for fully supporting the four-month programme that involved female students across the country.

Sports247 gathered further that the initiative, which took place from November to February, touched many states in Nigeria, which Oguntimehin said became possible due to massive support that followed it at each venue.

He added that the initiative provided well-structured and intensive training sessions for 5,000 female students nationwide, thereby generating strong interest for the sport in various locations and increased participation of girls in rugby.

The rugby media officer further disclosed that the programme was supervised by NRFF board member, Wuraola Hussain, with assistance from 30 certified coaches, who took the gritty sport to schools, community centres and academies.

“Rugby Rising initiative introduced thousands of girls to basics of the game with improved acceptance among parents, schools and communities,” said Oguntimehin, who also pointed out that the coaches followed safety guidelines set by World Rugby.
