Rohr Leaves His Options Open After AFCON 2019

Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr is leaving open his options over the possibility of another job after his tenure in Nigeria, as he says he wants to concentrate on the Africa Cup of Nations for now.

Sports247.ng reports that Rohr is under contract with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until 2020, but could be less busy after AFCON 2019 in July, which has now left speculation rising over his next line of action.

However, rather than jump at an opportunity for a new port of call in the horizon, the Franco-German gaffer, who has also handled the national teams of Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso says he is thinking only of the Nations Cup in Egypt for now.

Incidentally, options could also be available for Rohr at club level, as his CV includes spells with Girondins-Bordeaux, Créteil, OGC Nice, Etoile du Sahel and FC Nantes, but he has now been in Africa for nine years.

The 65-year-old tactician, who extended his current contract before last year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia, admits football is always dynamic on and off the pitch, but stressed that he is enjoying his job with the Eagles.

Rohr parried: “I’m very happy in Nigeria, I still have two years of my contract. Let’s have a good Africa Cup of Nations, and then we’ll see.”
