Rohr Downplays Amrouche’s Resignation From Libya

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has downplayed the import of Adel Amrocuhe’s resignation as Libya’s coach, as the Nigerian team’s gaffer says the visitors would be fired up even more for Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

Speaking at a press conference monitored by sports247.ng in Uyo, Rohr stated that the Eagles will not be distracted by Amrouche’s departure from the Libyan team ahead of this weekend’s AFCON 2019 qualifier.

Rohr said he will not be thrown off board by Amrouche’s exit, because he knows that the Algerian gaffer’s assistant, who will lead Libya, will see the match as an opportunity to impress.

While pointing out that all the players will also want to impress the new man in charge, Rohr stressed that the coach will aim to use the game to get possible consideration to fill the void as the substantive coach.

Rohr added: “We should not be celebrating the resignation of the coach, because players are usually more determined to play better under a new coach, in order to impress the new man and cement a place in the team.

“You should, therefore, expect Libya to be tougher in Uyo without Amrouche, because the players will want to make good impressions under the new man in charge.

“At the same time, the new man has been an assistant under Amrouche, which means he will play just the same way, and the team will continue in the same manner we saw from them against South Africa.

“They will be strong in defence and try to surprise us with counter attacks; so we have to prepare very well for them; which is what we are doing.

“It doesn’t change anything. We have seen the team in videos, they are a good team and could have won in South Africa.

“The coach can change but they are the same players and it will not be an easy game because sometimes it is more difficult that a new coach is coming because everybody wants to show what he can do.”
