RIVERS UNITED CLEARS ALL OUTSTANDING DEBT OWED TO SAMUEL AKURUGU – HON. BOMA IYAYE

The world governing football body, FIFA in a letter served a 3 transfer window ban for Nigerian Professional Football League club, Rivers United due to a petition by a former goalkeeper, Samuel Akurugu who is a Ghanaian International.

Samuel claimed that he was not paid for his services when he played for Rivers United based on his contracts agreement. This indebtedness prompted the goalkeeper to seek retribution from FIFA to intervene in the issue.

In a swift response to the ban, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye on behalf of Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt stated the unfortunate issue has been resolved as the player, Samuel Akurugu who had infractions with the club has been settled of all his entitlements and hopes the ban by FIFA is lifted soon.

Hon. Iyaye said, “The matter has been settled this morning and we are hoping that in line with what is said in that letter, the van will be lifted immediately because as you are aware we have started the preparation for the continent and for the domestic league which eventually comes on board. ”

Hon. Iyaye assured that commitment of the team to do better as the Governor (Wike) is ready to give every request to make.
