Ogenyi takes over from Fatai Osho, who stepped down from the position at the end of the previous season.

Having previously coached Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars, where he successfully guided the latter to the NPFL from the Nigeria National League (NNL), Ogenyi brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His appointment was met with enthusiasm as he expressed his eagerness to coach the Pride of Rivers.

Ogenyi shared his thoughts on the decision, stating, “After speaking with Coach Stanley Eguma, it was a really easy decision to join the coaching set-up here. It’s an exciting time to become part of this great team, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone more closely on and off the pitch.”

The club also announced some key signings to bolster their squad. Deputy Echeta, John Uche, Ebedebiri Endurance, and Yao Kouassi Bernard are the new additions set to add depth and talent to the team.

Rivers United showcased their prowess in the NPL regular season, finishing first in Group B with an impressive tally of 34 points from 18 games. However, their performance in the playoffs was slightly less stellar, as they secured the third spot with nine points after five matches.

As the NPFL season approaches, all eyes will be on Rivers United to see how their new chief coach and signings will shape the team’s performance on the pitch. Fans eagerly await the start of the season, eager to witness the team’s journey under Ogenyi’s guidance and the impact of the new signings on their quest for success.
