During the match against Bayelsa Queens on Friday, two players from Rivers Angels assaulted a match official, prompting swift action from the NWFL.

The league body has imposed a fine of one million naira on Rivers Angels for their violation of Article 26.1, which prohibits any form of assault on match officials. The article specifies that players or officials who engage in physical, verbal, or intimidating behavior towards match officials may face a fine of one million naira and potential banishment from the league.

Additionally, the NWFL reserves the right to impose a ban of up to one year on a venue
where such assaults occur.

Furthermore, the NWFL has suspended two players from Rivers Angels, namely Adjei
Charlotte (Jersey No. 12) and Hassan Suliat (Jersey No. 22), from participating in the
third-place match between Confluence Queens FC and Rivers Angels FC. This suspension
serves as a consequence for bringing the game into disrepute.

The NWFL expressed their disapproval of the actions of the Angels and emphasized the
importance of fair play and respect for match officials. The league conducted a thorough
investigation into the incident, considering reports from the match officials involved.

Based on the findings, the NWFL swiftly implemented the sanctions to uphold the principles of fair play and ensure the safety and respect of match officials.

In the upcoming match, Rivers Angels will face Confluence Queens for the third-place
position at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Sunday. The NWFL hopes that this
incident serves as a reminder to the team and their players and officials to prioritize fair play and respect in their future engagements within the league.
