Rivers Angels Cement Legacy with Back-to-Back President Federation Cup Titles

Rivers Angels have solidified their dominance in Nigerian women’s football, clinching the President’s Federation Cup for the second consecutive year after a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Nasarawa Amazons at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

The Port Harcourt-based giants showcased resilience and experience in the gripping final, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to level the match 2-2 in regular time, before holding their nerve in the shootout to claim a record-extending 10th title.

Nasarawa Amazons looked poised to cause an upset after Olushola Shobowale netted a brace to put the Lafia side firmly in control. But the defending champions clawed their way back with goals from Taiwo Ajibade and Taiwo Afolabi, forcing the tie into penalties.

Coach Tosan Blankson’s side then showed their championship mentality from the spot, converting four of their five penalties while the Amazons faltered under pressure.

This latest triumph follows Rivers Angels’ narrow 1-0 win over Naija Ratels in the 2024 final and further underlines their reputation as the gold standard in Nigerian women’s football.

With 10 Federation Cup titles now in their trophy cabinet, Rivers Angels continue to set the benchmark, combining talent, tenacity, and tradition in their ongoing reign at the summit of the domestic game.
