Revival In Ibadan? Super Eagles Goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke Set For Shooting Stars Switch

After months in the wilderness, Super Eagles goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke is set to revive his career with a sensational return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), as he nears a deal with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.

Ojo Olorunleke, 29, has been without a club since parting ways with Sudanese side Al-Merriekh earlier this year, following the political unrest in the country. Now, the experienced shot-stopper appears ready for a new chapter with the Oluyole Warriors, a club seeking to rebuild its status among NPFL elites.

The potential move would see Olorunleke bring his wealth of experience to Ibadan, having previously guarded the posts for Kano Pillars, Sunshine Stars, Akwa United, Abia Warriors, and most recently, Enyimba — where he won the NPFL title in the 2022/23 season.

A respected name in Nigerian football circles, Olorunleke was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, serving as backup to first-choice Stanley Nwabali.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that talks between Olorunleke and Shooting Stars are at an advanced stage, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.

If finalized, the move could be a major coup for 3SC ahead of the new NPFL season, as they aim to build a squad capable of competing for continental slots and ending their trophy drought.

For Ojo Olorunleke, it presents not just a homecoming to familiar turf, but also a crucial opportunity to re-establish himself in the national team setup — with the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and 2025 AFCON on the horizon.
