Paris Saint-Germain Feminine of France winger, Rasheedat Ajibade has reflected on the Nigerian female national team’s inability to qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and reasoned that they have to prepare more ahead of subsequent competitions, Sports247 reports.
While speaking in the wake of her side’s 2-1 loss to South Africa in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations play-off fixture on Thursday, the Nigerian captain admitted they faced unexpectedly fierce opposition in all their matches, starting from their opening game versus Malawi.

A shock 3-2 loss to the debutants, who have gone all the way into Sunday’s final, set the stage for what turned out to be a nightmare competition for the ten-time African champions, as they have failed to reach the Women’s Mundial for the first time since it started in 1991.
With the Falcons now demystified and no longer the unassailable conquerors in Africa, Ajibade has earnestly called for a concise review of their pitfalls, in order to correct all errors, while also suggesting the need for greater preparation and stronger mentality among the players.
“We should learn not to be lax, because the competition is fierce now. We must realise we’re not invincible. We just need to prepare more, get better, and demand more of ourselves individually and collectively,” Ajibade submitted, even as she stated gratitude to all Nigerians for believing in them.
