Lagos is set to take centre stage in African football this December after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed Nigeria as the host of the 2026 CAF Awards.
The prestigious ceremony will take place on Monday, December 7, 2026, bringing together some of the biggest names in African football for a night celebrating the continent’s outstanding players, coaches and other key figures.
The decision was confirmed following a virtual meeting of the CAF Executive Committee chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe on Friday, October 2.
The awards ceremony is expected to be held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos, formerly known as the National Theatre. The venue was among the facilities inspected by a CAF delegation during its visit to Nigeria earlier this year.
Nigeria’s hosting of the awards adds another major CAF event to the country’s football calendar. The country will also host the CAF Ordinary General Assembly on November 21, with representatives from CAF’s 54 member associations expected to attend.
The 2026 CAF Awards will mark the fourth time Lagos has hosted the prestigious ceremony, following previous editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
The event will once again bring attention to the achievements of African footballers and other stakeholders who have made significant contributions to the sport during the year.
The awards will also provide an opportunity for Nigerian football fans to watch some of Africa’s biggest football stars gather on home soil.
With December 7 now officially confirmed, attention will gradually turn to the nominees and the players, coaches and personalities who will compete for the continent’s major individual honours.
The CAF Awards remain one of the biggest nights on the African football calendar, and Lagos is set to provide the stage for the continent’s football elite once again.
