Club Brugge of Belgium are on the verge of losing Super Eagles’ midfielder, Raphael Onyedika in the summer transfer window, as the fast-rising schemer has rejected a contract extension with the Jupiler League side.

Sports247 reports that Brugge were hoping to keep Onyedika for the long term, so they quickly gave him a tempting offer, which would have seen him stay put beyond the expiration of his current contract at the end of the coming season.
However, rather than jump at the bait, the product of FC Ebedie of Sagamu snubbed the offer, which left him open for a summer transfer deal, and his next likely destination could jolly well be Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany, who have submitted an official bid for his signature.
A move to Frankfurt would see Onyedika follow the route that former Super Eagles’ mercurial playmaker and ex-captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha had at the onset on his glittering career.
The prospect of becoming the next Nigerian midfielder, after Okocha, to feature for Frankfurt apparently informed Onyedika’s decision to snub the contract extension offered him by Brugge, and he is now looking towards featuring in the German Bundesliga.
A report by Tribal Football revealed, “The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Belgian champions and has reportedly turned down an extension offer, fueling speculation about his future.
“Onyedika has attracted interest from several clubs, including Turkish champions Galatasaray and teams from the Premier League. However, Frankfurt have now made their move by opening negotiations with Club Brugge ahead of the new season.
“Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that talks between the two clubs are ongoing (for) the Super Eagles midfielder (who) joined Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in 2022 and has since won two league titles, a Belgian Cup, and a Belgian Super Cup.”
