Quadri Starts 2019 With Global 26th Spot Ranking

Nigerian table tennis men’s number one, Aruna Quadri has been rated 26th in the world at the start of 2019.

Sports247.ng gathered that Quadri’s ranking, which puts him number one in Africa, comes from International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), which on Wednesday released the January 2019 players’ cards.

Despite Quadri being inactive for two months, he is still among the top 26 players in the world and the current African champion remains the continent’s highest rated player.

It was in October that Quadri again displaced Egypt’s Omar Assar, who has also been inactive in in the last four months, but keeps 47th place, in spite of his suspension by Egyptian Table Tennis Federation (ETTF).

Segun Toriola and Olajide Omotayo are static in ratings, while China’s Fan Zhendong and Ding Ning head into 2019 on top of the Men’s and Women’s World Rankings respectively.

Toriola is rated 136 while Omotayo, a semifinalist at the 2018 ITTF African Championship is ranked 146th.

On the other hand, the Chinese pair hit extraordinary heights in 2018 and were crowned winners of the ITTF Star Awards in Incheon, Korea.
