President Federation Cup-Winning Coach Kabiru Dogo Confirms El-Kanemi Exit, Backs Warriors for CAF Confederation Cup Success

President Federation Cup-winning coach Kabiru Dogo has officially confirmed his departure from El-Kanemi Warriors, expressing confidence that the Maiduguri club can make a strong impact in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.

Dogo announced his exit shortly after guiding El-Kanemi Warriors to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ikorodu City in the 2026 President Federation Cup final at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday.

The triumph secured El-Kanemi’s fourth President Federation Cup title and booked the club’s place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking after the match, the veteran tactician congratulated his players, club management and supporters for their unwavering commitment throughout the campaign.

“I want to congratulate my team and everyone connected with this success. We were the better side today and I thank God for giving us this victory,” Dogo said.

The coach described the victory as a special moment, recalling the heartbreak of losing the 2016 Federation Cup final on penalties.

“If you remember, I was in the final in 2016 and lost on penalties. Today, God has rewarded me with this title. It is a special moment in my career,” he added.

While confirming that he has brought his spell at El-Kanemi Warriors to an end, Dogo wished the club success in continental football and urged them to strengthen the squad ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“I believe El-Kanemi have a good team. With the right recruitment and proper planning, they can go far in the CAF Confederation Cup,” he said.

The experienced coach is expected to take over at Nigeria Premier Football League side Niger Tornadoes, beginning a new chapter after delivering silverware and continental qualification for El-Kanemi Warriors.

Dogo’s exit closes a memorable period in Maiduguri, where he restored the club to national prominence by winning one of Nigeria’s biggest domestic trophies.

As El-Kanemi Warriors prepare for life in the CAF Confederation Cup, the search now begins for a new coach to build on the foundation he leaves behind.
