Players union gives new date for Stephen Keshi tourney

The 2nd edition of the Stephen Keshi national under 17 and 21 football tournament organized by National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers ( NANPF), which was scheduled to hold from 17 to 22nd of August 2019 has been postponed to 25th through 29th of September,2019.

 

The new date was announced in a statement by a former player, Stephen Cole, who is the chairman of the organizing committee for the tournament.

According to Cole, who is NANPF’s director of youth development, and also doubles as special assistant to the Delta State Governor on sports development, the shift of date became necessary and after due consultations with chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Tony Okowa and the General Secretary of the Players Union, Austin Popo, during the week in Asaba.

” We decided to postpone the tournament in order to allow Delta state athletes who are preparing for the forthcoming youth games in Ilorin make use of the facilities, which are the same designated for the tournament,” he explained.

Cole went on to reveal plans by the union’s executive, led by its President, ex-international Tijani Babangida, (MON) to pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Senator ( Dr). Ifeanyi Okowa at the government house, Asaba. As part of other plans to herald the much-anticipated tournament.
