Paralympics Committee Sets High Targets In New Tenure

The new exectuvie committee of Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) has set for itself high marks and distant targets that have to be met in order to lay credence for their elections to office.

 

Sports247.ng can report that this personal charged was provided by the committee’s new female athletes’ representative, Flora Ugwunwa, who also assured that all competitors will henceforth get equal treatment.

Ugwunwa also harped on the need to increase welfare packages of the athletes, as well as provision of wheelchairs and crutches across board.

The 2016 Paralympic games javelin world record holder promised to live up to expectations, but noted that some events are not making waves in top competitions because of poor recognition.

She said better facilities and additional support will inspire athletes to attain impressive performances in intercontinental games.

Ugwunwa added: “My presence in PCN board is to solicit for basic needs of para athletes to enhance our well-being and achieve our career goals.

“All athletes need improved welfare but para athletes should get more.

“There must be balance in the way facilities are shared, so that all para athletes can benefit because we are one family representing Nigeria.

“Para sports have more medal chances in competitions; we need bring these laurel chances to the notice of PCN and encourage the athletes.”
