Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sports247, Agbagu expressed satisfaction with the opportunity for grassroots coaches in Ogun State to acquire professional coaching qualifications through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) certification programme.
The CAF D Coaching Course is scheduled to take place from October 21 to 26, 2026, marking an important milestone in efforts to strengthen coaching standards and professional development across the state.
Reacting to the initiative, Agbagu described the programme as a long-awaited opportunity for the association and its members.
“This is a welcome development that the association has been yearning for over the years,” he told Sports247.
The NFCA chairman explained that the association’s continuous investment in grassroots coaching education has started yielding encouraging results.
“The continuous training given to our coaches, especially the grassroots coaches, is starting to yield positive results,” he stated.
For Agbagu, the introduction of the CAF D course represents more than another training exercise. It provides a structured pathway for coaches seeking to improve their technical knowledge and obtain recognised qualifications.
The NFCA chairman reserved special appreciation for Ogun State Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, whom he credited for his commitment to bringing the programme to the state.
“With the excellent relationship we enjoy with the Ogun State Football Association, ably led by Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, who has worked tirelessly to ensure the first CAF course is brought to Ogun State, it is a huge achievement for our administration,” Agbagu explained.
His remarks highlighted the growing cooperation between the Ogun FA and the state coaching association in promoting football development.
The initiative has also received commendation from Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, who recently praised Majekodunmi’s commitment to coaching certification and grassroots development.
Ahead of the programme, Agbagu urged participating coaches to demonstrate discipline, professionalism and commitment throughout the training.
“I implore our members who will be part of this programme to be good ambassadors of the state,” he advised.
He also encouraged coaches who were unable to secure places in the current programme not to become discouraged.
“I also want to appeal to those who couldn’t make it this time to look forward to another window that will open soon for them to acquire the CAF D,” he added.
The NFCA chairman’s assurance offers encouragement to grassroots coaches hoping to obtain certification in subsequent programmes.
The forthcoming CAF D course represents a significant opportunity to improve coaching standards and strengthen the foundation of football development in Ogun State.
With the backing of the Ogun FA, NFCA and NFF technical leadership, the programme is expected to provide participating coaches with valuable professional knowledge.
For Victor Damilola Agbagu, the achievement demonstrates what sustained commitment and cooperation can deliver, while opening new opportunities for grassroots coaches seeking to advance their careers.
