Nigeria’s Ojeleye Set for First Futsal AFCON Assignment Today as Bello Also Clears CAF Fitness Test in Morocco

Nigerian FIFA futsal referee Ojeleye John Tope is set to officiate his first match at the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco today, Thursday, October 15, following his successful completion of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) pre-tournament fitness examinations alongside fellow Nigerian official Bello Al Hassan Zuru.

The development marks a significant milestone for Nigerian refereeing, with both officials earning places among the selected match officials after undergoing intensive training and rigorous physical assessments.

In a joint statement announcing their achievement, the duo expressed pride in meeting CAF’s requirements and securing the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the continental championship.

“We are proud to announce that both of us successfully passed the physical fitness tests for the CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 pre-tournament programme,” they stated.

“Following intensive training and a series of rigorous assessments, we met the required standards and earned our places among the elite futsal referees selected to officiate at this prestigious continental tournament.”

Ojeleye, a Lagos-based referee who earned his FIFA futsal badge in 2025 and retained it in 2026, will now turn his attention to Thursday’s assignment, seeking to demonstrate the professionalism and competence that earned him continental recognition.

The officials attributed their success to consistent preparation, discipline and determination to uphold Nigeria’s reputation in international officiating.

“This achievement reflects our dedication, discipline, commitment to excellence and determination to represent Nigeria with honour on the continental stage,” they added.

They also pledged to maintain the highest standards throughout the competition.

“We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to contributing to the success of the tournament through professionalism, fairness and excellence in officiating.”

“Nigeria to the world!”

With Ojeleye preparing for his first match today and Bello also securing his place among the tournament officials, the duo’s achievement provides another opportunity to showcase Nigerian refereeing excellence on the continental stage.
