‘Our Aim Is To Get Them Off The Street, Groom Them For Future Excellence’ – Taiwo Akanni Gives Insight On Future Pro Academy Mission

Taiwo Akanni, a scout and also the welfare officer of Future Pro Academy has revealed the mandate and institution of the institution which is to take talented grassroots players off the street and build them for future excellence.

Popularly hailed as Sir T, he allayed that there are more than enough youngsters who are rough but once they land in the right hands, they can be refined into a good talent for the future and that’s what their institution focuses on.

“We are looking for grassroots young talent that has the ability and potential to grow to the highest pinnacle of football,” he stated in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng.

“That’s why we are giving room for trials to teams around and let’s see some of the players we can possibly work with, I have seen two to three players in the past few days and I’m going to talk to the management about them”.

“From there, we will know what to do when they come into the team and get a trial, if they meet up to the standard and what’s required, we will keep them and develop them but if not, we won’t hold them down,” he added.

“In Future Pro, we have an extensive program and we train a lot. We have U-17 and now we want to grow U-15 and that’s our sole search for the trial, if they are outstanding, they get scholarships.”

“We also at some point when they have reached a certain point of growth, we prepare them for scouting program, the chairman will bring scouts from Europe and we just finished one at the Onikan Stadium where scouts flew in from Sweden.”

“Last month, some players went to Cairo in Egypt for trials, about 15 players and 6 were selected which shows how far we have come and how we are committed to grooming this player for global stage.”

“Also, there are few players that are our products in the Nigeria Premier League but our players are mostly abroad,” he concluded.
