His winning time eclipsed his previous personal best of 51.60 seconds, marking a significant milestone in his athletic career.

The triumph capped an impressive outing for Salami, who continues to build momentum after emerging as one of the country’s most promising talents in the event. The improved time not only secured him the gold medal but also demonstrated his steady progression and ability to deliver when it matters most.

Salami’s performance is expected to strengthen his case for future international assignments as Nigeria prepares for major competitions on the global athletics calendar. His consistency and continued improvement have made him one of the standout performers in the men’s 400m hurdles this season.

In the women’s 400m hurdles final, Nyenuchi Okemgbo also impressed with a composed display to secure the national crown. Okemgbo crossed the finish line in 59.01 seconds, producing a confident performance to emerge as champion and cap off a successful day of competition.

The AFN Commonwealth Games Trials have continued to provide a platform for both established athletes and emerging stars to showcase their talents, with several competitors recording personal bests and breakthrough performances throughout the event.

For Salami, however, the day belonged to him. By lowering his lifetime best and claiming the national title in the same race, he announced himself as a serious contender on the domestic scene and an athlete capable of achieving even greater heights in the future.

As attention now shifts to upcoming international competitions, the performances of Salami and Okemgbo offer further encouragement for Nigerian athletics. Their victories in Lagos highlight the depth of talent within the country and reinforce optimism that Nigeria can continue to produce athletes capable of excelling on the continental and global stages.
