Osahon Dominates Discus F55-56, Secures Gold for Edo State with Record-Breaking Throw

In a commanding display of strength and determination, Edosomwan Fidelity Osahon brought glory to Edo State after clinching the gold medal in the men’s Discus F55-56 event at the National Para Sports Championships.

Osahon threw a season-best 31.46 meters, a mark that not only earned him the top podium spot but also outclassed his South-South rivals, Emmanuel Adebayo of Delta State and John Godgift of Bayelsa State, who settled for silver and bronze respectively.

The event, which drew significant attention due to the fierce regional rivalry among South-South athletes, lived up to expectations as all three podium finishers delivered strong performances.

But it was Osahon who stood out, digging deep to edge out his opponents with a throw that sent a clear message: Edo State remains a powerhouse in para athletics.

“This gold means everything to me,” Osahon said after his victory. “I came here knowing I had to give everything. Adebayo and Godgift are excellent competitors, but I trusted my preparation and focus.”

The 31.46m throw marks one of the best performances in the category this year, highlighting Osahon’s potential on the national and continental stage.

His win not only boosts Edo State’s medal tally but also solidifies his status as one of Nigeria’s top para-athletes.

Officials and fans from Edo State celebrated the achievement, calling it a proud moment for the state’s sports development efforts.

The Athletics Federation also praised the high level of competition in the F55-56 class, noting Osahon’s throw as “a significant benchmark for upcoming athletes in the category.”

With the victory, Osahon has set the pace for what could be a promising international outing, should he be called up for continental or global competitions.
