The result marks another consistent performance from the 29-year-old, who has remained a dominant force in women’s discus in 2025.

Onyekwere’s steady progress this season further solidifies her status as one of Africa’s top medal hopefuls heading into the World Athletics Championships and Paris 2025 Olympic Games.

“This performance is a reflection of the work we’ve been putting in,” Onyekwere said after the event.

“Competing against some of the world’s best always brings out the fight in me, and I’m happy to keep building momentum.”

Also representing Nigeria at the meet was Obiageri Amaechi, who finished 8th with a best effort of 57.21m.

Despite not reaching the podium, Amaechi’s participation underscores the growing depth in Nigeria’s women’s discus ranks, as both athletes continue to prepare for upcoming continental and global showpieces.

Onyekwere, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and reigning African champion, remains a beacon of inspiration for many young athletes across Africa, proving that with discipline and determination, world-class performances are within reach.

As major championships draw closer, all eyes will be on Onyekwere to lead Nigeria’s charge on the global stage — a role she seems more than ready to embrace.
