In what is shaping up to be a defining moment at the ongoing South West Regional Primary School Games, Chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, has stirred national attention after dismissing the popular belief that host state Lagos has a winning advantage, boldly declaring: “Lagos cannot win simply because they are hosting.”
Speaking directly to Team Ondo athletes during a motivational stop at their camp, Olabimtan urged the youngsters to approach every contest with the mindset of champions, reminding them that the power of sports lies in its ability to elevate lives.

> “Sports can take you beyond the shores of Nigeria,” he said. “You may be young today, but the potential you carry is limitless.”
Olabimtan’s words appeared to resonate deeply with the athletes. Over 70% of the team members indicated it was their first time in Lagos, a detail the chairman used to emphasize how sports opens doors to new experiences and future opportunities.
His visit seemed to have had an immediate effect on performance, as Team Ondo went on to dominate nearly all their events during the preliminary rounds, sending a strong message to rivals ahead of tomorrow’s finals at the Yabatech Sports Complex.
Now, the sporting community is watching closely to see whether Ondo’s early momentum will convert to podium finishes and potential gold medal sweeps.
The finals promise to be a thrilling showdown — but one thing is clear: Team Ondo is not in Lagos just to participate. They are here to make history.
