Onasanya Shines with Triple Medal Haul at 2026 BIPOGA in Asaba

The 2026 edition of the Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA), held in Asaba from February 14 to 21, produced remarkable performances — none more inspiring than that of Onasanya Ayomide Adebayo.

The Philosophy graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University delivered an outstanding debut at the Games, clinching gold in the 100m hurdles, silver in the 400m hurdles, and bronze medals in both rugby and a karate demonstration event.

Competing for the first time at BIPOGA, Onasanya described the experience as both exciting and motivating.

“It feels great being a first-time participant. I just wanted to run through, earn my medal and press on,” she said.

“When I attacked the seventh hurdle in the 100m, I knew victory was close, but I didn’t relax because anything can happen.”

Her 400m hurdles race tested her resilience. Despite tripping and brushing the eighth hurdle, she fought through to secure silver.

“I believe I could have won if I hadn’t fallen, but lesson learnt — take it one step at a time, no pressure,” she reflected.

Beyond track events, her speed translated into rugby success, while a spontaneous participation in karate earned her an additional bronze medal.

Inspired by Jamaican sprint icon Elaine Thompson-Herah, Onasanya says hurdles remain her primary focus.

“Gold is precious. But BIPOGA is about bonding — we are one big family,”

she added, thanking supporters and expressing determination to achieve even greater success in the future.
