Former Stationery Stores captain and ex-international Taiwo Oloyede has praised the organisation and competitive standard of the ongoing Jagaban Cup 2026, describing it as a valuable platform for emerging football talents in Lagos.
Speaking on the tournament, Oloyede lauded the efforts of Gafar Liameed, Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, for sustaining grassroots football development through such initiatives.
“I feel happy that the Lagos FA Chairman is bringing this type of tournament to Lagos. The turnout has been impressive despite the early schedule from 7am to 12pm, and it has been very interesting to watch,” he said.
The former international highlighted the intensity of competition among the participating teams, noting that the hunger to succeed has made every fixture fiercely contested.
“The games have been very competitive because no team wants to lose. We saw several goals on Matchday 1 and fewer the next day, which shows teams are adjusting and improving.”
Oloyede also used the opportunity to offer guidance to young players hoping to progress through the ranks, particularly those eyeing professional opportunities abroad.
“My advice to players who get selected is to have a good manager and learn from the mistakes of others as they pursue their careers, especially if they aim to play in Europe.”
He emphasized the importance of discipline, proper representation, and continuous learning as key factors in building a successful football career.
With growing attention from scouts and stakeholders, the Jagaban Cup continues to reinforce its role as a vital pathway for grassroots talents, while experienced voices like Oloyede’s provide crucial mentorship for the next generation.
