Olopade Explains Reasons Behind NSC’s Mass Redeployment Of Sports Federations’ Secretaries

Director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade has come out with a detailed explanation of the body’s decision to redeploy several secretaries of national sporting associations in the country.

Sports247 reports that, following the large-scale switch of positions among several secretaries-general of the country’s governing bodies for various disciplines, Olopade said it was basically to bring about a revival of effectiveness and proper organisation in the sector.

While pointing out that the reshuffled postings will bring about a new and better approach to sports administration in the country, Olopade enthused that the changes will also lead to better results for Nigeria in all the affected sports federations.

He then listed them as athletics, basketball, rowing, shooting, karate, fencing, arm wrestling and padel, in what he referred to as a strategic deployment of personnel aimed at putting experienced hands where they can deliver better results.

Olopade added that the NSC opted to move the scribes around in an attempt to maximise their professional capabilities, while improving the approach to running of sports and organisation of events by the federations.

He expatiated: “The general secretaries are the lifeline of Nigerian sports, and we thank them for the sacrifices they have made in supporting the Commission. We now expect them to play a bigger role in delivering our sports development agenda.”

‘DG’ also commended the secretaries for their commitment and sacrifices toward the development of Nigerian sports, as well as the support they have provided to the NSC since the appointment of the commission’s current leadership, headed by the chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and himself.

He explained that the mass reshuffling was aimed at strengthening the administration and operations of various sports federations in line with the NSC’s Renewed Hope for sports development.

“Let me be clear that no secretary is being removed or sacked. They are only being posted to another federation to carry out another assignment. This is how much the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and I believe in all our secretaries and their professional expertise.

“I have always said that the secretaries are the lifeline of our sports. They play a very critical role in the fulfilment of our mandate at the NSC to statutorily regulate and develop sports in the country, in line with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Olopade submitted.

Sports247 reports further that Olopade also expressed hope that the NSC’s latest redistribution of its administrative workforce will produce stronger, cohesive and better organised federations, while ending all it’s old governance problems.
