Olaolu Jason Olatunde announced his return to Nigerian soil in emphatic fashion, storming to a new Personal Best (PB) of 10.19s (+1.5) to dominate the men’s 100m heats at the AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet in Benin.
Running on the track where he once trained, Olatunde looked in imperious form as he cruised to victory in Heat 4, clocking the fastest time across all heats and slicing a massive 0.12s off his previous PB of 10.31s.
It marked the first time the rising sprinter has dipped under the 10.20s barrier, and he did so with such control that many observers believe he may have more in the tank. Olatunde appeared to ease off slightly before the line — a sign of both confidence and maturity.
His performance sets the stage for a mouthwatering men’s 100m final later this evening, where he will face stiff competition from the experienced Enoch Adegoke and emerging talent Chidera Ezeakor, who won his heat in a solid 10.34s.
With national bragging rights, rankings, and potential selection spots at stake, all eyes will be on the final showdown as Olatunde looks to cap off a stunning return with victory — and possibly another lifetime best.
The stage is set. The sprinters are ready. Nigeria may just be witnessing the rise of its next sprint star.
