Olamide Lawal Welcome Athletes To Africa U-18/U-20 Championship Praises Governor Abiodun Commitment

As the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 Championships officially get underway in Ogun State, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Comrade Olamide Lawal, has warmly welcomed the young athletes from across the continent, hailing the event as a turning point for sports development in the state.

Speaking ahead of the competition, which features over 700 athletes from various African countries, Comrade Olamide Lawal described the hosting rights as a testament to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s sustained investments in youth and sports.

“This is a proud moment for Ogun State,” he said. “Hosting a championship of this magnitude is a reflection of His Excellency’s vision for youth empowerment and a thriving sports sector.”

Olamide Lawal highlighted that the state’s improved sporting infrastructure, upgraded under Governor Abiodun’s administration, is now attracting international attention and opportunities.

He praised the governor’s leadership and commitment, emphasizing that sports have become a vital part of Ogun State’s youth development strategy.

Also commending the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, for his “outstanding leadership” in advancing Nigeria’s sporting agenda, Lawal noted that Ogun’s sports ecosystem has flourished under Olopade’s guidance.

“Our sporting activities have tripled, and the transformation of facilities has made Ogun a preferred destination for top-tier competitions,” he added.

In his message to the visiting athletes, Lawal urged them to compete with integrity and passion. “This championship is more than a contest—it’s a celebration of Africa’s future stars. We wish every athlete success and hope they leave inspired by the spirit of Ogun State.”

The African U18/U20 Championships continue this week at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, marking another major milestone in Nigeria’s sporting calendar.
