Ogun2025:Ukaegbu Fires Abia into Top 10 with Darts Masterclass at National Sports Festival

In a sport often overlooked, Abia State’s Nnamdi Ukaegbu has become the unlikely hero of the 2024 National Sports Festival, firing his state into the Top 10 medal rankings with a stunning display in Darts.

Ukaegbu delivered a near-perfect performance in Ogun State, claiming an impressive haul of five medals across various categories. He bagged three gold medals in Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Foursome events. His silver came in the fiercely contested Men’s Singles, while he added a bronze in the 1001 Men’s Singles category.

While other states battled for dominance in more high-profile sports, Ukaegbu quietly led Team Abia’s charge with unwavering precision and composure. His success has not only added valuable points to Abia’s tally but also spotlighted Darts as a serious medal prospect for the state in future competitions.

Team Abia, often considered underdogs, made a quiet but effective leap into the Top 10 standings after also securing medals in Athletics on Day 6 of the Festival.

“This means everything,” said Ukaegbu after his final event. “It’s not just about the medals—it’s about representing Abia with pride and showing that excellence can come from anywhere, even in Darts.”

As the festival continues, all eyes will now be on Abia State to see if their momentum—powered by unlikely heroes like Ukaegbu—can carry them even higher on the medals table.
