The Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, has been honoured with the prestigious Award of Excellence by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), highlighting the growing synergy between sports development and media engagement in the state.
The recognition, presented at the Cultural Centre in Abeokuta—currently serving as the Media Centre for the National Sports Festival—celebrates Hon. Isiaka’s pivotal role in transforming Ogun’s sports landscape and fostering collaborative relationships with the media.

Veteran journalist and respected figure in Nigerian sports journalism, Mr. Kunle Solaja, made the presentation amid applause from top stakeholders across the sports and media industries.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Isiaka dedicated the award to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, describing the honour as a direct reflection of the Governor’s unwavering support for sports development and media collaboration.
> “This recognition is a testament to the vision and commitment of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON. Under his leadership, Ogun State continues to experience a renaissance in sports infrastructure, talent development, and strategic media engagement,” Isiaka said.
He reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to deepening the partnership between sports and media as a tool for growth, visibility, and youth empowerment in the state.
> “I remain committed to strengthening the partnership between sports development and the media as well as advancing our sports sector under the purposeful leadership of His Excellency,” he added.
The award comes at a critical time as Ogun State positions itself as a hub for national and grassroots sports, hosting significant events like the ongoing National Sports Festival.
