Top officials in Ogun State conducted a high-level inspection of the newly renovated Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, the flagship venue for the much-anticipated National Sports Festival (Gateway Games 2024), scheduled for May 16–30, 2025.

Leading the delegation was Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, joined by Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (Ogun Central) and Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape (Abeokuta South Federal Constituency) from the House of Representatives.
The officials expressed satisfaction with the stadium’s transformation, describing the upgrades as world-class. Senator Salisu applauded the governor’s commitment to sports development, stating that the facility’s facelift reflects Ogun State’s readiness to host an unforgettable edition of the National Sports Festival.
Salisu also emphasized the festival’s potential to stimulate economic growth, empower young people, and promote Ogun’s cultural heritage. He urged residents to take active roles in the event.
Governor Abiodun assured that all infrastructure and logistics would be in place before the festival begins. Rep. Afuape also praised the speed and quality of the renovation work.
The 2024 National Sports Festival will host over 15,000 athletes competing in 38 sports disciplines, with the MKO Abiola Stadium set to stage the opening and closing ceremonies along with major athletics events.
Local businesses are preparing for an economic uplift as Ogun State readies to welcome thousands of visitors for the two-week sports celebration.
